Pokhara is where Nepal slows down. The Annapurna range rises straight out of the valley behind Phewa Lake, so the mountains are in view from a rowing boat, a cafe table or the Sarangkot ridge at sunrise. It is also the country's adventure capital: paragliding, one of the longest zip lines in the world and the trailhead for the Annapurna circuit all start inside the city.

Four days on a well made stone trail through Gurung villages and rhododendron forest, topping out at 3,210 metres for a sunrise that puts Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre in one line. No technical ground and no altitude risk, then two nights back at Lakeside with a zip line day if you want one.
